I look forward to this event every year, the announcement of CNN's Top Ten Heroes. Today, #GivingTuesday, seems to be a most appropriate day to highlight the 10 finalists for 2015 and one special lady from Phoenix, Arizona.
Jody Farley-Berens experienced firsthand, the struggles that single parents face when dealing with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Her friend, Michelle Singleton was a single mom of four children, who was just 32 at the time of her cancer diagnosis. Farley-Berens and other childhood friends helped their friend by making meals, cleaning her house, paying a bill or two when able, and doing their best to “lighten the load” on Michelle and her kids. After her friend passed away, Farley-Berens started a nonprofit in 2006, Singleton Moms to provide practical, financial and emotional support to more than 300 parents in the Phoenix area.
